A baby elephant had a lucky escape after falling into a well in the Ernakulam district of Kerala, India.
Rubber plantation workers discovered the calf trapped 20 feet down in the narrow shaft. Struggling to keep its head above water, the animal was in a life-or-death situation. However, the workers were reluctant to attempt a rescue for fear of starting a stampede as the calf’s herd was nearby.
Eventually, wildlife experts were called in and began the painstaking task of digging an escape route for the trapped animal.
