AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — An Auburn police officer shot and killed a 21-year-old man at an apartment complex, authorities said.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said the shooting happened Monday night during a burglary but released few other details.
“During the course of the incident, a suspect armed with a handgun made forcible entry into the residence occupied by an officer with the Auburn Police Department,” the state agency wrote in a news release.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency identified the deceased man as Amari Young of Opelika.
The state agency is reviewing the shooting at the request of the Auburn Police Department. The findings will be turned over to the Lee County district attorney.
The apartment complex is located off campus but advertises itself as serving students from Auburn University and other nearby colleges.
